What is foster care?

Foster care offers a safe and stable family home for children and young people who are unable to live with their own families. It’s a temporary arrangement which can last for days, weeks, months or years.

Our dedicated foster carers look after these children and, in many cases, work towards reuniting them with their family or whanau. Where this is not possible, foster carers may help them to prepare for a ‘home for life’ or for independence.

There are a variety of fostering placements available for children of different ages and needs.
