Caring for a child is a fantastic career that really makes a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people. We believe foster carers should be rewarded for their hard work. That’s why we offer our foster carers a generous allowance that covers the cost of caring for children and young people as well as being a reward for the work you do.
Fostering allowances are paid to all foster carers whenever they take a fostering placement and are paid on a fortnightly basis. The amount you receive as a foster carer depends on the placement type.
General specialist foster care
You will receive a foster care allowance based on the needs of the child or young person in your care. For this program you will be paid an allowance of $580 – $620 per child, per week. There will be a varied rate for sibling groups, plus consideration to additional expenses.
Specialist 1:1 foster care programme (Christchurch only)
